Ministry Opportunities
Are you looking for ways to serve the Lord? This is a list of “entry-level” ministry opportunities at WBC. If you find one that interests you, call the church office (713-723-6428) and they can put you in touch with the contact people listed.
Weekly volunteers needed at McNamara Elementary. Help teachers at McNamara, the local elementary school we’ve adopted. Mentor students, help out in the office, serve as a teacher’s aide, or assist in other ways according to your interests and skill set. Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Talk to Fran Moore, Judy Richardson, or Jeff Berger.
Help Braes Interfaith Ministries. Westbury partners with several other area churches to supply local residents with food and clothing. Work in the vegetable garden. Volunteers from WBC work at Braes’ headquarters (located at Willow Meadows Baptist Church) on Mondays. See Paul Brown or Ruth Simons.
Volunteers needed in the church nursery. We need volunteers to care for kids age three and under during our worship service. You could join a rotation and serve four times a year. All volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Talk to Hope McNeil.
Join the greeters or usher teams. Greet visitors to Sunday School (greeters) or to worship (ushers), hand out worship guides, help people feel more comfortable in worship services, and offer other logistical support as needed. Speak to Kyle Damron or Jan Morris.
Join the choirs. Our adult choir rehearses on Wednesday nights at 7:05 in the choir room and youth choir rehearses on Sundays after worship/lunch at 12:30. The choirs lead in worship on Sunday mornings throughout the year. See Kyle Damron.
Help out in the sound booth. See Keith Haggott or Dave Messersmith.
Help repair homes with His Helpers. They help our older adults, single adults, and widows with small household repairs as well as large jobs. See one of our deacons.
Serve as a chaperone on youth events. Be an “adult presence” at youth fellowships, camps, Bible studies and other events. See Stephen Ray.
Be a substitute Bible teacher. Let your department director know that you are willing to fill in whenever a teacher needs to miss a class.
Coach in our youth basketball league. The league, for boys and girls 3rd-6th grade, plays in January and February. See Randy Mitchell.
Visit homebound members. Pack goody baskets and take to homebound members, along with Sunday School books. Find out what their needs are. Just listen to them. See Gail Grace.
Work with leftover flowers. On Monday mornings, make small flower arrangements from Sunday’s worship arrangement. Take to people in hospitals, at home, in nursing homes. See Johnnie Deavenport.
Assemble New Homeowner Bags. During the week, put together the new homeowner bags that are taken on Sundays to deliver to the new homeowners in our neighborhood. See Ruth Escamilla or Randy Mitchell.
General Repair at WBC. Work with members of the Maintenance Committee to do minor repairs and/or construction around the church. See the Chairman of the Maintenance Committee or Becky Brown.
Help serve in the kitchen. Be a part of the Wednesday night volunteers or help serve at church-wide meals. See Karen Mitchell.
